Total Horsemanship Starts Here
At Storybook Horse Club, we believe relationship and community partnership between our members and our horses is the most important part of starting out a horsemanship journey. We begin every equestrian experience on the ground, and build out a robust adventure that captures every moment you need along the way to achieving your dreams.
Horsemanship 101: “From the Ground Up”
Starting September 28th, 2026!
Horse 101: From the Ground Up is Storybook’s foundational chapter. Every member starts here, regardless of previous riding experience. It’s all about learning the horse before the riding: how horses communicate, how they experience the world, how to read their body language, and how our choices affect their comfort, trust, and willingness.
Members learn practical horsemanship from the ground up — grooming, leading, handling, groundwork, observation, basic care, horse behavior, tack and equipment, nutrition, farrier and veterinary care, herd dynamics, safety, and what it actually means to be responsible for a [large] living animal.
Plus: We prepare you for the decisions that come next. When you’re ready to specialize in any discipline, will you rent, lease, or purchase your equine partner? What should you know before making that commitment? What does the right horse, arrangement, and environment look like for you? Horse 101 gives you the knowledge and perspective to make informed, long-term decisions about your future with horses.
Horsemanship 201: “Feels Like the First Time”
[COMING SOON] Starting November 2nd, 2026!
Horse 201: Feels Like the First Time is the second installment after 101: From the Ground Up, where members take everything they’ve learned about horses, communication, care, and groundwork and begin applying it from the saddle.
The focus shifts toward becoming a thoughtful, capable rider while continuing to prioritize the horse’s experience. Members develop balance, body awareness, communication, mounting and dismounting, steering, transitions, basic arena skills (and etiquette), and the ability to recognize how their riding affects the horse. 201 is about learning to ride in relationship with the horse — understanding what you’re asking, why you’re asking it, and whether the horse understands and is willing to accommodate the request.
This is also the place where members will begin connecting their riding goals with their broader equestrian interests and discovering where they may want their journey to go next.
Horsemanship 301: “We Ride at Dawn”
[COMING SOON] Starting January 2027!
Horse 301: We Ride at Dawn is where the foundation becomes independence. Members move beyond the basics of understanding and communicating with a horse and begin developing greater confidence, consistency, and autonomy in the saddle. The focus expands from learning to ride toward learning how to make thoughtful decisions as a rider and equestrian.
This is where members can begin exploring more varied riding experiences, refining their communication and skills, building confidence outside the familiar, and discovering where their individual horse journey may lead — whether that’s recreational riding, trails, a particular dicipline, or eventually working toward a horse of their own.
Horse 301 is where you ‘take the reins’ — bringing everything you’ve leraned about the horse into a more independent, confident, and expansive riding journey.
